| The sensible campaign to amend the smoking ban in the UK. |
| The purpose of the campaign is to petition the government to amend the smoking ban in relation to Pubs and clubs by introducing a “Minimum Air Quality Standard” that must be met by businesses who wish to allow smoking in part or all of their premises. This would then provide the option for Pubs and clubs to make the necessary improvements to their premises to meet this standard or to remain smoke free. We believe this to be a sensible, workable and preferable alternative giving more choice to smokers, non smokers and business owners alike. Modern air cleaning technology incorporating ionisers can remove virtually 100% of airborne particles providing a comfortable and perfectly safe environment for customers and staff within premises that wish to welcome smokers back to their venues. Smokers and their non smoking friends have been staying away from Pubs in their thousands since the introduction of the blanket ban causing dramatic loss of revenue to a large number of Pubs, social clubs, bingo halls and other venues. Particularly hard hit are those premises that have been unable to provide an outside sheltered area due to lack of space. At the time of writing, Pubs are closing down at the rate of 40 a week and we believe this has always been avoidable and completely unnecessary and that it is the inflexibility of the smoking ban that is largely to blame. Be you a smoker, a tolerant non smoker, licensee or simply someone who believes that, in a democracy, customers and business are entitled to have a CHOICE, you are ALL invited to sign the Pubs4Smokers petition. | If you believe that your business will benefit from permitting smoking in all or part of your premises, then your active support of this campaign could allow you the freedom to make your own decision on what is best for your business. Here's what you can do: First, Sign the petition yourself. Do it NOW then come back to this page. Use your computer to make posters and flyers to promote Pubs4Smokers.org in your venue (don't forget the smokers shelter!) Encourage your customers to do as you have done and sign the petition. Make a PC available to your customers so they can sign the petition there and then. Promote the fact that you are supporting this campaign outside of your venue inviting passing trade to pop in and sign as well (they may even buy a drink whilst there!) Social Clubs and Live Music venues also can promote Pubs4Smokers.org in newsletters, gig guides, websites, mailings, text communications etc. Remember; Widespread, active promotion of this petition will be essential if it is to have any real impact. Perhaps we can look forward to seeing signs like this up on some doors in the future! |
